Pores, texture and dullness: what works, what doesn't
Pores cannot be closed; they can be made less visible by clearing them, reducing oil, tightening the skin around them and improving the light the surface reflects. Most "glass skin" results are hydration and light, which is why they fade in days.
About 100 searches a month in Singapore for “pores treatment singapore” (Ahrefs, October 2026). 20 treatments reviewed for this concern.
What works for pores, texture and dullness?
Retinoids and chemical peels reduce pore visibility and surface roughness in controlled studies. Non-ablative fractional lasers, picosecond fractional handpieces and RF microneedling improve texture with modest downtime. Hydrafacial-type treatments and skin boosters give short-lived hydration and glow. Dermaplaning, gua sha, ice rolling and most viral routines are cosmetic and temporary. Oral isotretinoin, a prescription medicine, changes oil output and is discussed only at consultation.

Pooled trials showed 1064 nm picosecond treatment reduced melasma scores, while 755 nm was not superior to topical agents and was associated with post-inflammatory hyperpigmentation.
From the Pico laser review — Efficacy and safety of picosecond laser for the treatment of melasma: a systematic review and meta-analysis., Lasers Med Sci, 2023. PMID 36897459.
- systematic review
Pooled randomised trials found fractional CO2 somewhat more effective for acne scars and RF microneedling better tolerated, so the choice should be individualised to skin type and downtime tolerance.
From the RF microneedling review — Fractional CO2 Laser Versus Micro Needling Radiofrequency for Post Acne Scarring: A Meta-Analysis of RCTs., J Cosmet Dermatol, 2026. PMID 41821146.
- systematic review
Pooled comparisons found no significant difference between pulsed-dye laser and microsecond 1064 nm Nd:YAG for rosacea erythema.
From the Laser Genesis review — Efficacy Comparison of Pulsed Dye Laser vs. Microsecond 1064-nm Neodymium:Yttrium-Aluminum-Garnet Laser in the Treatment of Rosacea: A Meta-Analysis., Front Med (Lausanne), 2021. PMID 35127754.

- Pico laserThe variable that matters is depth, not brightness, and pigment already deposited is only half the problem; the inflammation producing it is the other half.Vetted
- RF microneedlingThe tissue plane, not the device, decides whether you tighten skin or remodel fat. The brand war is a distraction from that.Vetted
- NiacinamideIt will not change a face, but it makes everything else in the routine easier to tolerate, which is worth more than most hero ingredients deliver.Established
- Retinoids: retinol, retinal and prescription retinoidsThe mistake is not choosing the wrong retinoid; it is quitting in week three.Established
- Skin boostersDull skin is a collagen problem — boosters hydrate the surface while collagen work happens underneath.Established
- Chemical peelsThe result is written in the depth and the priming, not in the brand on the bottle.Established
- Double cleansing and oil cleansingThe question is not whether to double cleanse but whether your first cleanser rinses off; the ones that do not are the ones that clog.Established
- MicrodermabrasionIt polishes the surface and nothing more, which is exactly the right tool on the days nothing more is wanted.Established
- TixelA useful tool at the surface; it does not change what is happening underneath.Promising
- Clear + Brilliant and MoxiTreating pigment early is sensible; calling it prevention is a story the evidence has not yet told.Promising
- Laser GenesisThe wavelength is capable of far more than this protocol asks of it; the gentleness that sells it is also its ceiling.Promising
- HydraFacialA good facial, honestly labelled. Between treatments, maintain your results — this is maintenance.Trend
- The 'glass skin' routineA trend that describes healthy, hydrated skin and then sells ten steps to get there. The result is real; the route is shorter than the videos suggest.Trend
- Snail mucinA trend with a pleasant texture. It hydrates, which is honest work; the healing folklore belongs to the snail, not the bottle.Trend
- DermaplaningA trend that is mostly a shave. Harmless on calm skin, counter-productive on acne, and not a treatment for anything a laser or peel would be used for.Trend
- Carbon laser peelA trend with a good show. The carbon flash is theatre; the modest surface effect is the laser toning underneath, which can be done with or without the mask. Enjoy it as a facial; plan skin with something that reaches the dermis.Trend
- Rice water and fermented skincareA trend built on a pretty idea. Fermented rice extracts are pleasant hydrators; the glass finish in the videos comes from hydration, lighting and a well-timed ring light, not from rice.Trend
- Skin floodingA trend we can live with. It is moisturising done in the right order, and the right order matters more than the brand of any layer.Trend
- AquaGold fine touchA trend wearing a prescription. Micro-dosed toxin for pores is a real, short-lived effect; the gold stamp is a pretty way to deliver it, not a reason to pay for it.Trend
- BB GlowIt is a whole-face tattoo with cosmetic-grade pigment and a salon needle — and the day you want a pigment laser, the foundation you had implanted becomes the problem.Caution
