The verdict Established

Dull skin is a collagen problem — boosters hydrate the surface while collagen work happens underneath.

Reviewed against the Aesthetics International standard. Category: Injectables.

Do Skin boosters work?

Established. Dull skin is a collagen problem — boosters hydrate the surface while collagen work happens underneath. Good evidence for hydration and surface smoothness over several months; the nutrient additives have little independent evidence.

What it is

Micro-injections of hyaluronic acid, sometimes with vitamins, amino acids and antioxidants, placed superficially across the face to hydrate and improve texture and glow. The category sits between skincare and filler.

How it works

Small deposits of lightly cross-linked or non-cross-linked HA bind water in the dermis; additive 'cocktails' supply nutrients whose contribution is less certain. Delivery is by hand, by injector gun or by microneedling. Courses of two to three sessions are typical.

What the evidence says

Good evidence for hydration and surface smoothness over several months; the nutrient additives have little independent evidence. The result is glow and texture, not shape or lift.

What the studies show

  1. cohort

Intradermal micro-droplet hyaluronic acid improved objectively measured skin hydration and surface smoothness for several months in a prospective multicentre study.

Skin Quality Improvement With VYC-12, a New Injectable Hyaluronic Acid: Objective Results Using Digital Analysis. — Dermatol Surg, 2019. PMID 30893167.

  2. RCT

Patient-reported satisfaction with skin smoothness and hydration improved against untreated controls, with mostly mild and transient injection-site reactions.

Improvements in satisfaction with skin after treatment of facial fine lines with VYC-12 injectable gel: Patient-reported outcomes from a prospective study. — J Cosmet Dermatol, 2020. PMID 31621189.

  3. RCT

Micro-injected hyaluronic acid improved measured skin viscoelasticity and hydration over a course, supporting the hydration mechanism rather than any structural change.

Microinjections with hyaluronic acid in combination with glycerol: How do they influence biophysical viscoelastic skin properties? — Skin Res Technol, 2022. PMID 35643988.

In one lineDull skin is a collagen problem — boosters hydrate the surface while collagen work happens underneath. One of the few injectables where 'natural' is built into the design. The injected courses are a sensible part of a skin plan; the salmon-sperm facial is mostly the microneedling doing the work.

Risks

Bruising, small bumps that settle, rare Tyndall effect if placed too superficially in thin skin.

Questions

What is the 'Chanel injection'?
A nickname for NCTF 135, a hyaluronic-acid and nutrient skin booster. It has nothing to do with the fashion house.
How long does glow last?
A few months after a short course; maintenance is planned individually.
Can skin boosters replace laser?
No. They hydrate; lasers remodel. Many plans use both.
