Jawline and chin filler

'Jawline contouring' · chin projection

Jawline filler is the injectable men ask for most and a steady TikTok category, helped by 'jawline highlighting' make-up trends and a general shift from cheek volume towards lower-face definition.

Search interest: about 300 searches a month in Singapore for “chin filler” (Ahrefs, October 2026).

The verdict Established

Before adding anything to the jaw, ask whether the line is blurred by descent or by fat; filler fixes neither.

Does Jawline and chin filler work?

Established. Before adding anything to the jaw, ask whether the line is blurred by descent or by fat; filler fixes neither. Chin and jawline augmentation have good randomised evidence: an RCT of a high-cohesivity hyaluronic acid filler for jawline definition found roughly seven in ten treated participants improved on a validated scale at six months against four in ten controls, with effects through a year, and separate RCTs in Western and Asian populations support chin augmentation for retrusion.

Verdict
Established Long clinical track record. Results depend on selection and technique more than on the device.
Evidence base
3 PubMed-indexed studies cited below, including randomised trials.
Suits
A retruded chin, a soft or asymmetric jawline in a face with good skin tone, men wanting definition without volume elsewhere.
Not for
Jowls and submental fat (treat the descent and fat first); heavy lower faces; anyone wanting a square angle on a face that will look masculinised.
In Singapore
Hyaluronic acid and calcium hydroxylapatite fillers are HSA-registered devices injected by doctors in Singapore.

What it is

Firm hyaluronic acid or calcium hydroxylapatite placed along the mandibular border, at the angle of the jaw and on the chin. It sharpens the line between face and neck, projects a weak chin and corrects asymmetry. It is structural filler: placed on bone, in small volumes, for shape rather than softness.

How it works

A receding chin shortens the jawline visually and makes the neck look fuller; adding projection at the chin lengthens the line and improves the profile more than any jaw-angle work. Angle filler adds width and definition, which suits some faces and squares others. Filler cannot remove jowls or submental fat; placed over them it adds bulk to the problem.

What the evidence says

Chin and jawline augmentation have good randomised evidence: an RCT of a high-cohesivity hyaluronic acid filler for jawline definition found roughly seven in ten treated participants improved on a validated scale at six months against four in ten controls, with effects through a year, and separate RCTs in Western and Asian populations support chin augmentation for retrusion. These trials are manufacturer-sponsored, as nearly all filler RCTs are. There is little evidence on long-term cumulative dosing, and jowling caused by descent is a documented reason for poor results.

What the studies show

  1. RCT

At six months 69 per cent of treated participants versus 38 per cent of controls improved by at least one grade on a jawline definition scale, with mostly mild injection-site responses.

  2. RCT

A hyaluronic acid filler improved chin retrusion on a validated scale against no treatment, with a safety profile in keeping with other facial fillers.

A Randomized Trial to Assess Effectiveness and Safety of a Hyaluronic Acid Filler for Chin Augmentation and Correction of Chin Retrusion — Plastic and Reconstructive Surgery, 2022. PMID 36126213.

  3. RCT

In Asian participants chin filler produced improvement in projection and satisfaction compared with controls over the follow-up period.

Risks

Bruising, swelling, palpable product over bone, asymmetry, migration into the jowl with repeat volumes, and rarely vascular occlusion of the facial artery.

Questions

Will jawline filler get rid of my jowls?
No. Jowls are descended tissue; filler beside them can make the contrast sharper. Radiofrequency, ultrasound or surgery address descent.
Chin filler or chin implant?
Filler suits mild retrusion and lets you preview the change; an implant is for larger, lasting correction and is surgical.
How long does jawline filler last?
Firm fillers on bone tend to last longer than lip or cheek filler; expect a year or more, and assess before repeating.
