Sofwave

Synchronous ultrasound parallel beam (SUPERB) · 'needle-free lifting'

FDA-cleared for brow, submental and neck lifting and for cellulite, Sofwave is the most-discussed new ultrasound platform of 2025–26.

Search interest: about 300 searches a month in Singapore for “sofwave” (Ahrefs, October 2026).

The verdict Promising

A different job from HIFU and from monopolar RF — not a replacement for either.

Reviewed against the Aesthetics International standard. Category: Energy devices.

Does Sofwave work?

Promising. A different job from HIFU and from monopolar RF — not a replacement for either. Clinical studies support mild to moderate improvement in skin laxity of the face and neck and in fine lines after one to two sessions, with results developing over three months.

Verdict
Promising Plausible mechanism and early evidence. Reasonable to try with realistic expectations.
Evidence base
3 PubMed-indexed studies cited below (case series, cohort); no systematic review or randomised trial on the claim itself.
Suits
Early laxity and fine lines in people who want a comfortable, single-session, no-downtime option; thinner faces where deep HIFU is unwise.
Not for
Significant jowling or SMAS descent, which sit below the depth it treats.
In Singapore
HSA registration status should be confirmed with the provider at the time of treatment; availability in Singapore is limited as of October 2026.

What it is

An ultrasound device that heats the mid-dermis at a fixed, shallow depth of about 1.5 mm with parallel beams, rather than focusing deep points like HIFU. Integrated cooling protects the surface.

How it works

Heating a continuous band of mid-dermis to collagen-remodelling temperature produces tightening of the skin itself. Because it does not reach the SMAS or fat, it is positioned as a skin-tightening rather than a structural lifting tool, with less discomfort and less risk of fat loss than deep HIFU.

What the evidence says

Clinical studies support mild to moderate improvement in skin laxity of the face and neck and in fine lines after one to two sessions, with results developing over three months. Long-term, independent and comparative data are still accumulating. It does not address descent at the SMAS level.

What the studies show

  1. cohort

In a prospective trial of 15 subjects, two sessions improved brow, submental and neck laxity on blinded photographic grading at three and six months, with transient redness and swelling.

Efficacy and safety of high-intensity, high-frequency, non-focused ultrasound parallel beams for facial skin laxity. — J Cosmet Dermatol, 2024. PMID 38031530.

  2. cohort

Treatment at a fixed 1.5 mm depth reduced nasolabial and marionette line scores in most participants from one month, with no serious adverse events.

The efficacy and safety of the high-intensity parallel beam ultrasound device at the depth of 1.5 mm for skin tightening. — J Cosmet Dermatol, 2023. PMID 36757157.

  3. case series

Histology from treated human skin showed new collagen and elastin in the mid-dermis months after treatment, consistent with a skin-level rather than structural mechanism.

Synchronous Parallel Ultrasound Induces Long-Term Extracellular Matrix Remodeling of Human Skin. — Dermatol Surg, 2025. PMID 41405933.

In one lineA different job from HIFU and from monopolar RF — not a replacement for either.HIFU or radiofrequency is the wrong question — they do not do the same job, which is why 3D Facial Reconstruction uses both. The device delivers heat; the protocol decides where it goes and in which order. That is the whole difference between tightening and lifting.

Risks

Transient redness and swelling; low risk profile because the depth is shallow and fixed.

Questions

Sofwave or Ultherapy?
Different depths. Sofwave treats the mid-dermis for skin tightening; Ultherapy reaches the SMAS for structural lift. Some faces need one, some the other, some both.
How many sessions?
Usually one, sometimes two, with results over about three months.
Does it hurt?
Less than deep HIFU; numbing is usually enough.
